Bone Cellar
Now That It's All Over

Various Reviews - 1994-95

The first cd release from Seattle's [version of] Dead Moon (already a transgression from Dead Moonism, though maybe this is a mono cd--which upon further inspection is not). Pretty much straight forward guitars, drums and vocals. I like this band and the simplicity of their delivery. I am sure this band will be around for the long haul, and that in itself is a compliment.
--Snipehunt, Fall 1994

This Seattle band has put out a couple of singles in their five year existence, but this is their first full length, and maybe more folks should take as long to put a record out--easily one of the best local releases of the year, it's packed with strong songs of raw honest psychedelicized garage rock.
--Don Yates, Program Director, KCMU (Seattle)

This disc gets bonus points in many categories. First, what a GREAT name for a record company! Second, they have a sense of humor. Third, their music is cool. Fourth, they seem sincere. Bone Cellar - decided to release their own disc rather than be involved in the "greed and ugliness" of the music business. My favorite song is "Stupid Things" with the refrain ,"I do stupid things to fill my time". Great music, great lyrics.
--Baby Sue Music Review, Winter 1994

So here's where I'm supposed to say they don't really sound like a Seattle band, blah blah blah, but I'm sick of everybody trying to cash in on this not-grunge craze, and besides, Bone Cellar are better than that. In a town reputed to be heavy on riffs and light on songs, Dave Nothing has been doggedly cranking out sheer tuneage for over five years. Bone Cellar are a four-piece, but it's always been more or less the Dave show. He's a cynical bastard, and his curmudgeonly stage presence has turned more than a few potential fans away. But those who stay to listen will be rewarded with a weirdly life-affirming experience.
Nothing writes strange and beautiful melodies and sings them with raw, scratchy emotion, straining a little to hit the high notes, but hitting them every time. Blaring guitar lines cut through the sweetness of the tunes and then vanish. This is not negative music; some of its is downright rollicking. About the closest comparison would be a more cheerful Velvet Underground, if you can imagine that. Although different versions of four of these tracks have appeared on various singles and a 7" EP, the band has evolved from the heavy sound of their earlier days. There's some slamming stuff here, but most of it is unabashed pop. Don't worry; the lyrics to songs like "Sacred Cash Cow", "Cynical Bastard", and "Pass Me Another Beer I Think I'll Drink Myself To Death Tonight" prove conclusively that Bone Cellar haven't gotten too happy.
